Hong Kong Food Waste Plant approved
A HK$1.6 billion project to build the city's first organic-waste treatment plant was endorsed by Hong Kong lawmakers by a landslide majority, despite pan-democrats' pledge of non-cooperation in the legislature over political reform.
According to the SCMP, the plan to build a food-waste treatment plant in Siu Ho Wan on Lantau Island had won cross-party support. Civic Party leader Alan Leong Kah-kit said ahead of the meeting that pan-democrats at the weekly lunchbox meeting had no plans to delay the vote.
The next big item for Hong Kong's agenda- construction of an incinerator and the expansion of three landfill sites, has been the subject of much controversy in the last few weeks and is expected to generate heated debate.
