Anti-Occupy Central group intrudes Mong Kok protest site
In the past few weeks, those out in the streets of
Mong Kong in support of the Occupy Central movement (OC) have witnessed violent
and aggressive behaviours displayed by unhappy anti-OC groups. Masked
protestors, perhaps to hide their identity, intruded the OC camp in attempt to
remove any sort of barrier. As the OC supporters tried to prevent their
barriers being taken away, several hostile protestors began to rattle the
barriers. The Police later confirmed that six people have been arrested for
common assault. Moreover, it was alleged that some anti-OC protesters landed
punches on the head of a journalist as he was trying to capture the clashes
between both parties. In the words of the Police spokesman, “Mong Kok had
become increasingly dangerous”. In contrast, the protest site at Admiralty is a
lot more peaceful and civilised, with protestors either engaged in discussion
or resting in their respective tents.
The OC movement had commenced for more than a month
now and many of the anti-OC protestors decided to take action as they are
frustrated by the inconveniences and consequences triggered by the movement.
They claim that it takes longer to arrive to work and Hong Kong’s reputation as
an international business hub had been negatively affected. Some local
businessmen are particularly concerned about the movement as they have
experienced a decline in their daily income.
